1st phase of West Bengal Assembly election begins

Polling for the 1st of the six-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal began this morning in 54 constituencies in which an electorate of 97.42 lakh will decide the fate of 364 candidates.
Security arrangements has been strengthened for a free, fair and peaceful polling in the constituencies spread across 6 north Bengal districts of Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North Dinjapur, South Dinajpur and Malda.
Few of the important political figures whose chance will be decided today include 10 ministers of the Left Front government, which includes urban development minister Mr. Ashok Bhattacharya of CPI-M, PWD (Public WOrks Department) minister Mr. Kshiti Goswami of RSP, jail and social welfare minister Mr. Biswanath Chowdhury of RSP, Congress leader Mr. Debaprasad Roy and Trinamool Congress Darjeeling district president Mr. Gautam Deb.The 6 phase election is scheduled to be held between April 18 and May 10.
