A school teacher from Bihar was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday by a special CBI court. Teacher Rupam Pathak killed BJP MLA Rajkishore Keshri in Purnia town last year. Designated CBI judge B N Singh had pronounced her guilty of stabbing Keshri to death on 4 January 2011 and fixed April 10, 2012 as the date to decide quantum of punishment.
On April 2, 2011, the CBI had filed the charge sheet against the teacher under section 304 of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder carrying a maximum punishment of life imprisonment).
In January 2011, Rupam Pathak had stabbed MLA Keshri with a kitchen knife in his residence at Sipahi Tola into a janta darbar. Mr Keshri died minutes after Rupam attacked him. She was in turn assaulted by people at the darbar. Soon after the murder of Keshri, the CM had recommended a CBI probe into the killing.
Earlier, in June 2010, Ms Pathak had filed a police complaint against MLA Rajkishore, accusing him of raping her in 2007 but later she retracted the statement in court. In September 2010, she went back to court and withdrawn her case. Four months later she stabbed him.
