A youth attacked a 22 years old Mumbai girl and threw acid on her face at Goregaon railway station on Tuesday evening at around 6:47 pm. The girl named Aarti Thakur was attacked as she was punching her coupon, while speaking on the phone. She has been admitted to a private hospital after she suffered burn injuries. According to the doctors, she suffered 10 to 15 percent burns but was stable. Aarti’s eyebrows, chin, chest and forearms have partly burnt.

The attacker identified as Pintoo Sheikh and was nabbed by the Borivali railway police on Wednesday morning. A case of attempt to murder had been filed against him and will be produced at Borivali court. The police also disclosed a surprising fact that there had been two previous cases of acid attack at the same girl but the police could not nab the attackers.

Seema Thakur, the mother of Aarti told, “This is the 3rd time that Aarti has been attacked by a person. We suspect someone and have notified the police.” The girl is a resident of Nallasopara and employed at an IT firm in Goregaon. Aarti had been engaged recently.

This incident has once again raised a question on the security of women travellers.
